Joo Maria Lobo Alves Palhinha Gonçalves, a defensive midfielder for Fulham of the Premier League and the Portugal national team, was born on July 9, 1995, in Portugal.
He developed at Sporting CP and made his debut with the first team in 2017. He also had loan stints at Moreirense, Belenenses, and Braga. After coming back, he started playing, and in particular, he won the 2020–21 Primeira Liga. He joined Fulham in July 2022 for £20 Million.

In 2021, Palhinha made his official debut for Portugal. He was a member of the teams for the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2020.
Palhinha, a Lisbon native, enrolled in the Sporting CP youth programme in 2012 when he was 17 years old.
He made his professional debut with the B team on February 3, 2014, in a 3–2 home victory over Portimonense in the Segunda Liga, replacing fellow youth graduate Iuri Medeiros as a late substitute. It was one of just two appearances that season.
On April 4, 2015, while still playing in the second division, Palhinha scored his first goal as a senior. His header helped his team defeat Leixes 3–1 at home.
He spent the period of July 2015 to January 2017 on loan to Moreirense of the Primeira Liga.
